Pour Over Brew Guide

Sanctuary Coffee brew guide pour over

How to Brew: Pour over

Serves 1

What You’ll Need:

  1. Brewer of your choice, for this we’re using Orea
  2. Filter Paper
  3. Carafe or mug
  4. 15g (or one and half scoops) of medium ground coffee
  5. 220g (or a normal mug) of off-boiled water
  6. Scales (optional)

Add enough filtered water to a kettle to fill just over one mug and let it boil.

After the kettle has boiled, let it sit for a few minutes to cool slightly.

Add your filter to your brewer and sit the two atop your carafe or mug.

Using the extra boiled water, rinse  the filter paper to remove unwanted papery flavours.

If you have scales, add 15g (or one and a half scoops if no scales) of medium ground coffee to your filter paper.

Start a timer, and add 50g (just under one quarter of your water) to your filter and stir gently to saturate the grounds. This is called ‘bloom’.

After around thirty seconds (or until there is no more coffee dripping below), add another 50g of your water to your filter.

After another 30 seconds or so, add the remaining water and give a good stir.

The brew time should be around two minutes.

And that’s it! Throw the spent filter paper in the compost and enjoy your coffee black or if you like, with your favourite milk!
