idlewild animal sanctuary

Idlewild Animal Sanctuary provides care to a variety of animals through their rescue, rehabilitation, release and rehoming service. They provide a safe haven for animals that need life long care at their location in the Conwy Valley, Wales. Idlewild is unique in that it was set up to re-home the more “unusual” animals that might not otherwise find a loving home. They specialise in caring for animals that are elderly or have additional needs and require that extra care.

Some of their residents include; Wonder the Magpie who has sight and neurological issues, which means they can’t be released back into the wild safely. Idlewild describes them as an “office helper extraordinaire”. We could do with a Wonder, our co-hounder Dionne is a bit on the lazy side when it comes to admin!

They also have sheep that have issues with their necks such as Buttons and Rammy. Buttons was born with a wry neck and was unable to stand, Idlewild had to do round the clock feeding to keep her alive. Buttons has gone from strength to strength with her rehabilitation and physiotherapy, she is now able to walk independently and loves cuddles. We’ve also heard she is partial to stealing a cake or two on open days! A girl after our own heart :)

The improvement of Buttons really is an incredible transformation and it’s all thanks to the commitment of the Idlewild team. They also have a three legged sheep called Walter that needed a leg amputation after an infection. The sanctuary really is testament to their dedication of making sure every animal is given every possible chance at life.

We love chatting with Idlewild and learning about all the unique personalities of their wonderful animals! They actively promote health, wellbeing and mindfulness in regard to living a kind and cruelty free life. The sanctuary aims to educate the public in animal welfare and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals.
