The coffee world has a numerical point-based grading system from 60-100 to help apply value and categorisation. Specialty coffee scores at least 80 points on this scale, a signifier that the coffee is excellent.

You bet it is. We keep far away from coffee that can’t be traced to the farmers who grow it.

In fact, 50% of our coffees are purchased from farmers we know. We sometimes work with importers to bring these coffees over to the UK for us and jump on their traceable networks to bring over the other 50% of our coffees.

Oh em gee no! We actually pay a little extra to our packaging supplier to ensure our packaging is 100% paper and totally plastic free.

Contrary to popular belief, paper can actually store coffee just as well as plastic. Paper definitely doesn’t have the durability of plastic which is why we pack our coffee into boxes to give that extra slice of sturdiness.

You can subscribe to every coffee we have! Our Sanctuary Blend and Decaf will stay the same throughout the year whilst our Cluck Berry Espresso and Single Origins will rotate throughout the year to offer a nice variation.

The short answer is because we want to.

The longer (and much better answer) is because there’s really not that much support for animal sanctuaries out there. Most animal sanctuaries operate on terribly fine margins and are almost always ran by volunteers.

Some sanctuaries are lucky to receive celebrity patrons (which we totally encourage) but this isn’t the case 99% of the time. Our efforts to raise money for rescues is for two key reasons:

1. We believe all animals deserve to live with dignity - and rescue animals have often had the hardest start in life.

2. Behind most sanctuaries there is a small team of people who will risk poverty to keep their animals safe from harm. We will help however we can to make sure a volunteer’s kindness doesn’t put them in any risk.

We love to hear this question! You absolutely can but please check with the sanctuary you’d like to visit before heading off - these are usually whole day outs and some sanctuaries are seasonal.

We donate 5% of our total revenue. We started Sanctuary ourselves with no investment or savings so we put the rest of our profits back into growing the business. As Sanctuary Coffee grows, so will the donations!
