Information

  • Established in 2017, Mountain Harvest is a Ugandan coffee company founded by Ugandans for Ugandans. Dedicated to cultivating excellence, the organization works with over 850 farmers, paying 10-30% above local market prices while providing education, technical support, and reliable market access. This approach enables farmers to invest in their land, improve crop quality, and support their families, ultimately boosting local economies.

Mountain Harvest’s team includes agronomists, quality controllers, processing technicians, and other professionals who are committed to enhancing the livelihoods of farming families. The organization provides hands-on training in sustainable practices and supports income diversification by introducing additional crops such as Hass avocados, macadamia nuts, and honey. These crops complement coffee farming, promote healthy ecosystems, and offer farmers greater financial security.

To ensure a lasting legacy, Mountain Harvest prioritises coffee education for Ugandans. The organization offers internships focused on quality assurance, processing, and agronomy, and collaborates with universities globally to advance research in the field. Its state-of-the-art quality lab in Uganda provides analytical services to producers aiming to enhance their coffee.

Ugandan coffee reflects the dedication of its people, but challenges such as unstable markets and poverty have limited its potential. Mountain Harvest addresses these issues by creating a sustainable, year-round business model for farmers, ensuring they can thrive and pass their legacy to future generations. Through innovation, education, and a commitment to community, Mountain Harvest is transforming Uganda’s coffee landscape into a model of quality and resilience. In this vibrant ecosystem, Ensambles (our trusted partnered importer) has established a regional operation to forge a closer connection with the smallholders of la Mazateca. Their approach is hands-on, purchasing parchment directly from these local farmers while providing invaluable direct feedback and technical assistance right in the fields.

The coffee produced here is aptly named Tejao, a Mazateco term meaning "eagle’s nest." This name not only symbolizes the high elevations where these coffees are grown but also pays homage to a small town in Oaxaca called Huautla, which is home to our main lab and sits at the heart of this coffee's journey from bean to cup.
